CANTON — Samantha Dayter and Maddy Caron combined for 10 goals and nine assists as SUNY Canton’s women’s lacrosse team cruised to a 16-3 victory over SUNY Poly on Saturday to prevail in a North Atlantic Conference semifinal.
Goalie Olivia Scott made nine saves to record the win for the Kangaroos, who improve to 16-3 and advance to their third consecutive conference title game.
Host SUNY Canton will square off with SUNY Morrisville in the title game at 3 p.m. on Sunday, with the winner advancing to the 2024 NCAA Division III Tournament.
Dayter had a hand in 12 goals by tallying four goals and eight assists to go along with five draw controls.
Caron finished with a game-high six goals to go with an assist and five draw controls.
Caroline Nappi supplied four goals, Morgan Montgomery scored twice and Aayliah White added an assist and game-high six ground balls to go with three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
SUNY Morrisville defeated Husson 13-12 in overtime in Saturday’s second semifinal.
MEN’S LACROSSE
SUNY GENESEO 20, SUNY POTSDAM 10
Riley Henselder totaled four goals and two assists and Robert Boniello and Cole Bollin each generated three goals and three assists to propel the Knights past the Bears to win the SUNYAC championship game in Geneseo.
Jimmy Atkinson scored four goals for SUNY Geneseo (13-6) and goalie Andrew Tittman made five saves to post the win.
Peyton Walsh scored three goals to lead SUNY Potsdam (10-6), Owen Walsh tallied two goals and an assist, Ryan Hughes contributed a goal and two assists and Cobie Cree scored two goals.
Saka Thompson finished with 18 saves for the Bears.
Peyton Walsh closes his career as SUNY Potsdam’s top goal scorer with 141. He also finishes tied for second place on the scoring list at 192 points with school Hall of Famer Brian Austin.
BASEBALL
ST. LAWRENCE 9-3, CLARKSON 3-14
Cam Jerrett slugged a two-run home run and drove in three runs as the Golden Knights won the second game to salvage a split of doubleheader with the rival Saints in Liberty League play in Canton.
James Mason went 4-for-6 and drove in three runs in the nightcap for Clarkson (11-19, 3-13), Will Roda went 3-for-5, including a pair of doubles and knocked in two runs and Joe Figliolino also doubled twice and drove in four runs.
Jackson Brinker went 4-for-5 in the first game for St. Lawrence (13-19, 7-12), Timothy Connor homered, singled and Sean Desjardins doubled and singled, with all three driving in a pair of runs.
EASTERN NAZARENE 9-10, SUNY CANTON 11-1
The Lions swept the Kangaroos in an NAC doubleheader played in Waltham, Mass.
Alphonse Fuca led SUNY Canton (3-31, 2-13) on the day with a pair of hits.
O’Neil Jimenez doubled, singled and knocked in four runs in the second game for Eastern Nazarene (12-19-1, 9-6) and Anderson Jimenez homered, singled and drove in three runs.
SOFTBALL
SUNY OSWEGO 2-2, SUNY POTSDAM 0-3
The Bears prevailed in the second game to split a doubleheader with the Lakers in SUNYAC play in Oswego.
The win was the 14th of the season for SUNY Potsdam, setting the program’s single-season record. It was also the Bears’ fifth SUNYAC victory, matching the program’s single-season mark.
Anna Grottola, Sophia Pleat and Rebecca Holmes each singled twice in the second game for SUNY Potsdam (14-20, 5-13) with Holmes driving in a run.
Ashley, Sierra pitched a complete game to earn the win, scattering six hits while striking out seven and walking none.
RPI 1-3, ST. LAWRENCE 0-0
The Engineers (32-3-1, 6-8) swept the Saints to secure a Liberty League doubleheader played in Troy.
Maeve Thompson totaled three hits over the two games, including two in the finale, for St. Lawrence (19-14, 12-2).
Despite being blanked in both games, the Saints clinched a spot in the league playoffs on the final day of the regular season.
Securing its first playoff berth since 2013, fifth-seeded St. Lawrence will face fourth-seeded Rochester Institute of Technology in a play-in game at 10 a.m. on Thursday at tournament host Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
SKIDMORE 3-8, CLARKSON 1-3
The Thoroughbreds (9-27, 3-11) swept the Golden Knights in a Liberty League doubleheader played in Saratoga Springs.
Devin Fitzpatrick homered, singled and drove in three runs in the second game for Clarkson (11-25, 3-11). With her two-run home run in the fourth inning, Fitzpatrick tied the program’s single-season home run record with seven.
